Supporters have criticised the Glazers in recent months after viral footage of water streaming through the roof.

Fans were left drenched during the club’s 1-0 loss to Crystal Palace in October.

Meanwhile, a similar incident was caught on camera during the Women’s Super League clash between United and Manchester City the following month.

Gill has now revealed the roof was leaking prior to his exit as CEO in 2013.

During an appearance on Rio Ferdinand’s Vibe with Five podcast, he discussed the negativity currently coming out of the club.

He explained: “A silly little anecdote or example is I’m reading about the Sir Bobby Charlton stand leaking roof.

“Trust me, that roof leaked when we were there but it was not mentioned in the papers or the media, you know.

“It leaked, perhaps a bit more now I don’t know, but that’s all I’m saying.”

Gill also named his top three signings as CEO, with Cristiano Ronaldo snubbed from the list.

However, there was room for all-time leading scorer Wayne Rooney.

The former FA chairman spent 16 years with United after first joining as finance director in 1997.

He was later promoted to deputy chief executive before becoming CEO in 2003.

Gill left his post as CEO in 2013, but remained on the board at Old Trafford as a director.
