Former Man Utd goalkeeper commits nightmare howler to concede comical own goal against West Ham

DEAN HENDERSON was left completely red-faced after a massive gaffe cost Crystal Palace a goal against West Ham.

Tyrick Mitchell officially went down as the scorer of the own goal but it was the former Manchester United stopper who was undoubtedly to blame.

He mis-kicked a bouncing backpass that then rolled into the net[/caption]

Mitchell played the ball back to his goalie during today’s Premier League clash with the Hammers.

England international Henderson was under no pressure, but he still let the ball bounce over his right foot.

Then, despite his desperate and scrambling efforts, he was unable to stop it crossing the goal-line.

Fortunately for him and the Eagles, the mistake happened in the 89th minute with the game already won.

Palace secured the points over West Ham with a 5-2 victory at Selhurst Park.

However, that did not stop fans from sticking the boot in to Henderson, 27, on social media.

One wrote: “If I was a Mitchell owner I’d be raging at Dean Henderson. Terrible.”

Another wrote: “Sickening goalkeeper mistake!”

“Silly mistake by Dean Henderson, What an own goal,” commented a third.

A fourth wrote: “Absolute joke!”

While a fifth said that it was “totally rubbish” from Henderson.

Things got even worse for the ex-Nottingham Forest ace, however, when it was confirmed by the Premier League that the own goal had actually been awarded as his.

That was due to him mis-kicking his clearance following Mitchell’s backpass.

His horror moment came shortly after Blackburn goalkeeper Aynsley Pears scored a disastrous own goal against Sheffield Wednesday.

The 25-year-old was in action for John Eustace’s side in a crucial match in the Championship relegation battle.

With Rovers already trailing 2-1, defender Dominic Hyam sent a backpass to his goalkeeper.

Pears went to clear it first time, but inexplicably sliced the ball horribly into his own net.

Following his nightmare moment he waved his arms in frustration before picking the ball out of his own net.
