Gregory, who took charge of the Villans between 1998 and 2002, could be seen playing the guitar with a band at the Lions Square fan zone before kick off.

The 69-year-old was videoed by fans who were soaking up the pre-match atmosphere and looked to be enjoying himself back by the stadium he once called home.

Supporters were in shock at the bizarre situation and took to social media to discuss the crazy moment.

One fan wrote: “Didn’t think I’d see John Gregory playing guitar at Villa Park today!”

While another added: “John Gregory on the Guitar. What a man!!”

A third commented: “This wasn’t on my bingo card.”

And a fourth joked: “If the young lad doesn’t make it as a football manager he might have a career in music.”

Gregory, who is well known for his love of music and Bruce Springsteen in particular, took charge of over 180 games for Villa during his time as boss.
