Former Chelsea and Wolves striker Diego Costa gave Botafogo the lead in the 5th minute before Everton equalised for Gremio four minutes later.

However, the hosts then got into a commanding position as Junior Santos and Marlon Freitas netted before half time.

Suarez, 36, then grabbed the game by the scruff of the neck as he sensationally scored in the 50th, 53rd and 69th minute to put Gremio in the lead.

Gremio were able to hold on to their lead and win the game.

Fans hailed the veteran forward on social media as he proved that age is just a number.

One posted: “Luis Suarez still a great footballer at 36.”

A second hailed: “Old but still remain GOLD.”

A third commented: “Man’s always been classic!”

A fourth wrote: “He’s still got it.”

A fifth said: “The best striker ever in the history of football. Forget about R9.”

Another added: “Class is permanent, greatest striker there is. El Pistolero himself.”

Suarez has not got long left at Gremio as he has reportedly agreed to reunite with former Barcelona team-mate Lionel Messi at Inter Miami.

The duo played together between 2014 and 2020 in LaLiga and enjoyed a very successful period.

The pair became close friends and often take their families on holiday together.

Suarez has been in contact with the MLS club over a January move, according to Spanish outlet El Pais.

The striker, 36, has been offered a one-year deal to link up with Messi and former Barca team-mates Jordi Alba and Sergio Busquets.

Suarez is expected to travel to Miami next month to finalise the deal once his contract with Gremio expires.
