However, ex-wrestler Haynes refused to leave the house for two-hours before he “eventually came out” and was taken into custody.
Cops would then discover Becraft’s dead body inside.
Haynes was taken into custody although no potential motive for an alleged killing has yet been released.
Formal charges have also not yet been announced by police.
Police confirmed: “He is in police custody at a local hospital while he is being treated for a medical condition unrelated to the homicide or his contact with law enforcement.
“Once he is released from the hospital, which may be days from now, he is expected to be booked into jail. Haynes’ charges will be released once he is booked.”
Haynes, real name is William Albert Haynes, made his name in the wrestling business working locally in Portland.
He was then snapped up by Vince McMahon’s promotion in the 1980s and he competed on the WrestleMania III match card.
That extravaganza was main evented with Hulk Hogan’s famous win over Andre The Giant.
Haynes retired from wrestling in 1995 after stints in New Japan Pro Wrestling, WCW and USWA.
According to the reports in the US, Becraft was the mother of another pro-wrestler, Tod Becraft, who competed in the ring as Tod Ruhl.
Ruhl and Haynes became best friends after meeting aged nine and then, after Becraft’s husband Dwight died, she ended up marrying the latter.
An obituary for Tod Becraft, who passed away in 2021, reads: “Billy Jack Haynes was Tod’s best friend. They met when Tod was nine years old.
“After Dwight passed away, Janette and Billy Jack married. Janette named her guinea pig Lil’ Todster, after her beloved son.”
Since the shock incident three days ago, Kim Becraft Finlay, Becraft’s daughter, has wrote on Facebook: “You are now flying with the Angels. They are lucky to have such a beautiful soul. Love you Mom.”
Her niece, Sue Becraft, also wrote: “When a family member is murdered, as my Aunt Jan was this past Thursday morning in Portland, all that comes flooding back is the endless work her daughter did to get her away from her abuser.
“Hearing the pain and heartbreak in her voice as she tells me ‘He shot her this morning, she didn’t make it’.
“She loved her mother deeply and did all she could, but services she called to help her, only failed her and Jan.”
The couple’s neighbour Brelynn Matthieu told media: “I was pretty decently close to both of them and loved them very much. It’s a really sad day, all around.”
