Frank Warren forced to deny rumours Daniel Dubois has sensationally SPLIT with trainer just hours before Joshua fight

FRANK WARREN has poured cold water on the rumours that Daniel Dubois’ camp is in crisis and blamed concerns on the flu.

Ahead of his heavyweight world title war with 34-year-old Anthony Joshua, respected trainer Don Charles and first-class second Ian Duberry have been absent from the extravagant media events.

Social media on Wednesday night was brimming with rumours that coach Charles had sensationally split with the heavyweight fighter.

But Dynamite Dan’s promoter has extinguished the fuse and revealed the Pug Gym team is laid low with a nasty dose of the flu and they are wisely shielding their star student.

AJ’s trainer Ben Davison has also avoided the limelight at the grand arrivals and the media workouts.

But the Harlow trainer has been spotted keeping a low profile on the periphery, which he prefers.

Charles – who has worked wonders in the corner for Dubois in his last two wins over Jarrell Miller and Filip Hrgovic – has not been spotted at all.

At Wednesday’s dummy training session for the cameras, AJ shadow boxed with unknown kids from his beloved Finchley ABC.

But Dubois got a proper sweat on with a decent pads session with assistant trainer Kieran Farrell.

If Charles – who rose to fame as Derek Chisora’s earliest trainer – appears at Thursday’s press conference smelling of vapour rub, then Dubois fans can grow in confidence that their man could spring an upset.

Daniel Dubois - trouble in the camp?

By Wally Downes Jr

DANIEL DUBOIS – all 17st of shaven-headed muscle of him – sometimes looks like the most vulnerable man in the room.

Despite his ruthless knockout power and hulking 6ft 5in frame, confidence and charisma have always seemed in short supply.

So watching him attend three high-pressure media days almost alone, without trainers Don Charles and Ian Duberry, was worrying.

The 27-year-old Adonis had promoter Frank Warren and assistant coach Kieran Farrell alongside him every step of the way and he has seemed ice cool.

But fans and social media started buzzing with rumours that Pug Gym boss Charles was suddenly at civil war with Dubois dad and owner Stan – at the most crucial part of his career.

Stan has bred two brilliant boxers in Daniel and sister Caroline and Daniel looks to his giant father figure in tough moments but he has ruined his son’s relationships with two previous camps.

The party line is that the backroom staff have been floored by flu and they are wisely safeguarding Dynamite Dan from a spread that could wreck his chances of upsetting the odds and the London 2012 Olympic legend.

Dubois has already joined and left much-respected London gyms The Peacock and Shane McGuigan and – if there is more to the whispers and he has really blown it with the Borehamwood squad – then there are not many boxing bases left for him to occupy.

Hopefully Charles turns up to Thursday’s press conference or Friday’s weigh-in smothered in Vix vapour rub and stuffed full of tissues.

And the lonely figure Dubois has been cutting is massively boosted by his backroom staff being revitalised.

If anyone apart from Charles is in the corner on Saturday night, then AJ will be an even more clear favourite.

But if Dubois cuts a lonely figure again – after already being pulled out of the Peacock Gym and Shane McGuigan’s stable – it will make AJ’s assignment to become a three-time world champion look even easier.

When SunSport visited the Pug gym earlier this month and caught a couple of excellent final spars, Dubois raved about his new Borehamwood set-up.

But he made it clear that his father remains the driving – yet for many divisive – force on his career,

He told us: “My dad gives me an extra boost We are a partnership and a team, he knows the words that get to me and help me.

“When I look over into my corner and he’s there, it gives me that kick up the a***.

“It makes me fight even harder, he makes me fight to win, he makes me give it my all.”

Joshua vs Dubois fight predictions

THIS weekend Wembley will witness one of the biggest all-British fights of all-time.

But who will emerge victorious under the famous arch? Some of the biggest names in boxing have been having their say…

Oleksandr Usyk: “My favourite is Anthony Joshua but I am very bad at predictions. But I will predict Anthony Joshua.”

Dillian Whyte: “I just think that it’s one of those fights where it is a genuine 50/50 fight in my opinion.”

Joe Joyce: “I was initially edging with Joshua but I don’t know, Dubois is coming on.”

Frazer Clarke: “As heavy-handed as Dubois is and as good a fighter as he’s becoming, I still have to go for Joshua.”

Francis Ngannou: “Even though Joshua lost against Usyk twice and Dubois fought Usyk and almost knocked him down and almost won, I would still give this to Joshua.”
