The jockey moved to California in December 2023 after bringing the curtain down in Europe.

He famously split with Gosden in 2022 after a series of high-profile clashes – their temporary break-up labelled a ‘sabbatical’ at the time.

They got back together a short time after, and Gosden later named Kieran Shoemark his go-to man after Frankie left the UK.

Frankie, 53, has ridden plenty of winners at Del Mar and has intimate knowledge of the unique track.

Connections are keen to use that experience to help dual Group 1 heroine Emily Upjohn go out in a blaze of glory before she is retired.

The five-year-old’s last success — in the Coronation Cup in 2023 — came under Frankie who has a total of 15 Breeders’ Cup wins.

His most recent came on Gosden’s Inspiral at Santa Anita last year. It was also the last time he rode for the yard.

Gosden has been loyal to Shoemark who has ridden Emily Upjohn in her last six races, twice chasing home Arc ace Bluestocking.

But having Frankie up in the US is being seen a no-brainer.

Emily Upjohn’s ultimate target has not yet been decided but she is 11-4 favourite for the Filly and Mare Turf.

She can also be backed at 13-2 for the Breeders’ Cup Turf, which could cut up dramatically.

Frankie recently thanked doctors for ‘putting me back together’ after he suffered a nasty fall.

The world-famous jockey was unshipped from a filly as they made their way to the stalls at Aqueduct in New York, US.

The jockey posted a photo from his hospital bed with the message: “I appreciate all the messages. I’m doing OK! I dislocated my right shoulder – my team here in the hospital have put it back together.

“Thanks for the messages of concern, it means a lot.”

But he is fighting fit again now and ready for the star-studded two day ‘world championships’ of racing.
