FRED will miss the start of Manchester United’s pre-season tour of the USA in order to deal with a personal issue.

The 30-year-old played 45 minutes after coming on at halftime of United’s 1-0 win over Lyon at Murrayfield Stadium in Edinburgh.

However, while Erik ten Hag‘s squad has headed to the States, a club statement confirmed Fred would stay behind for the time being.

United said: “One player who hasn’t made the flight is Fred.

“The Brazilian has remained in the UK to deal with a personal issue, but he is expected to join up with the rest of the squad shortly.”

Fred, who has been linked with a transfer away from United this summer, is not the only star to have missed the trip, with Tyrell Malacia and Rhys Bennett both missing out through injury.

Stars who had been given additional time off such as Bruno Fernandes, Casemiro and Marcus Rashford, who has signed a new deal until 2028, have all been named in the US squad.

The Red Devils stars were all smiles as they jetted off to America, where they will kick off their tour with a butting off heads against Arsenal in New Jersey on Saturday.

The Gunners have already made the trip over the Atlantic and produced a dominant display as they won 5-0 over MLS All-Stars.

After landing a number of stars were seen posing with fans, including Antony, Christian Eriksen and Fernandes – who is expected to be named captain after Harry Maguire was stripped of the armband.

Man Utd are set to add Andre Onana to their squad imminently after the Cameroon goalkeeper underwent his Old Trafford medical.

Personal terms have been agreed ahead of his £47million transfer from Inter Milan.

New boy Mason Mount has travelled too, but shock signing Jonny Evans has not travelled with the main squad.

Instead, Evans has gone to San Diego ahead of United’s match with Wrexham, where Ten Hag is expected to play an academy side.

Following the game with Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenny-owned Wrexham, they will then face Real Madrid and Borussia Dortmund in Houston and Las Vegas respectively.

United will then end pre-season with back-to-back clashes against Lens and Athletic Bilbao on August 5 and 6.
