GARTH CROOKS’ most iconic team of the weeks have been revealed — including an outrageous XI featuring replacement Troy Deeney.
The icon, 66, is leaving his famous role for the BBC following years of hilarious player choices and tactical approaches.
Garth Crooks’ best team of the weeks have been revealed[/caption] One sees replacement Troy Deeney fielded in a bizarre role[/caption]Crooks, who played for the likes of Tottenham and Stoke, had left fans in stitches with his selections for the past decade.
But the torch has now been passed to Watford legend and SunSport columnist Deeney.
However, he is no stranger to Crooks’ work, having been shoehorned into a previous team in a bizarre role.
In 2016, the striker was chosen by Crooks as the holding defensive midfielder in a brilliant diamond also featuring fellow forward Harry Kane — as well as wingers Max Gradel and Dimitri Payet.
And one X user, Jack Gray, decided to reveal even more of Crooks’ mind-baffling team choices.
Described as an “all-timer”, one team had forwards Alexis Sanchez and Marko Arnautovic as wing-backs either side of Kevin De Bruyne as an anchorman.
Another team saw Crooks fit FIVE strikers into a front line, leaving very little in the way of a midfield and defence.
While a third team saw the centre of the park relying on playmakers like Payet, Mesut Ozil and Andre Ayew doing the heavy work.

Finally, one Crooks XI saw full-back Matt Doherty and winger Andriy Yarmolenko put in midfield — leaving centre-back Joel Matip and striker Jamie Vardy on the flanks.
Speaking about his new role, Crooks’ replacement Deeney said: “I’m delighted to tell you that I am taking over from the legend that is Garth Crooks to select BBC Sport’s Premier League Team of the Week every weekend, and it is a great honour to get to fill his shoes.

“I’ve always had massive respect for Garth for his amazing career in the media after his playing days ended.
“And, as someone who is following in his footsteps now, I’ve always looked up to him.
“I also really admire his approach because, when he has an opinion, he is not afraid to say it and he is always able to back it up.
“Yet he never comes across as someone who is trying to be controversial just to get likes or views on social media or anywhere else.
“Garth genuinely believes in what he says, and the same applies to me, or at least I’d like to think so!”
