Fergie built an empire at Old Trafford during his quarter of a century at Man Utd.

And in the 2000-01 season, the Red Devils were soaring through at the top of the Premier League.

Then in January 2001, United headed down to Craven Cottage for an FA CUp clash against Fulham.

Even though the Red Devils were victorious that day thanks to Teddy Sheringham and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer‘s goals.

The Cottagers striker Saha left Fergie amazed after putting up a fight with his defence.

He then broke his own transfer rule of not discussing deals with his players and asked his defenders for their thoughts on the Frenchman.

United legend Neville said on Sky Sports: “Sir Alex never asked us which players we should sign or never asked us information about players he was going to sign.

“But after we played Fulham one time in the FA Cup, he actually asked us as defenders, would we sign Louis Saha? We all said “yes” straight away.”

And after Fulham defeated United in 2003 it was a done deal for Ferguson who signed Saha the following January for £12.4million.

Saha would go on to win two Premier League titles and a Champions League with the Red Devils before leaving for Everton in the summer of 2008.

Neville continued: “I remember the season where he was playing up front with Wayne Rooney in 2006 and it was unbelievable; they were fantastic together.

“Louis was a brilliant, brilliant player. He gave me absolute nightmares when I used to play against him when he played for Fulham – him and Luis Boa Morte.”
