GETAFE are appealing against Mason Greenwood’s red card that he received for appearing to tell the referee to “f*** off”.

The Manchester United loanee was sent for an early bath for dissent in the LaLiga clash against Rayo Vallecano.

Getafe lost the game 2-0 with both goals coming before Greenwood‘s dismissal.

The forward was joined by two of his team-mates before full-time as Juanmi Latasa and Damian Suarez also saw red cards from referee Jorge Figueroa Vazquez.

Manager Jose Bordalas insisted after the game that Greenwood, 22, did not insult the referee.

He had spoken to Greenwood and said: “The player told me that he said ‘don’t f*** with me’, only that.

“It was in frustration but at no point has he insulted anybody.

“It was a comment, ‘don’t f*** with me, why won’t you blow (the whistle).”

Marca have reported that the club are appealing the red card to the Competition Committee.

It is hoped that Greenwood’s suspension will be removed and that he will be available for selection again.

Getafe are next in action on January 21 as they face Osasuna in LaLiga.

Greenwood’s red comes after SunSport exclusively revealed he has emerged as a transfer target for Barcelona.

The Spanish giants are reportedly eyeing up a £40million move for the winger, but face competition from Atletico Madrid.

While out on loan Greenwood has become an important player for Getafe.

This season he has scored three goals and assisted four more in 15 league appearances.
