Giacomo Losi dead aged 88: Legendary former Italy and Roma star passes away after stunning career

FORMER Italy and Roma star Giacomo Losi has passed away aged 88.

The ex-defender won 11 caps for his country and was a one-club player, making 386 appearances for Roma.

Losi played for Roma between 1955-69 and won the Coppa Italia in 1964 and 1969.

The former captain also tasted success in the Inter-Cities Fairs Cup in 1961 and featured in the 1962 World Cup.

After hanging up his boots Losi founded the Italian Footballers’ Association (AIC), in Milan, along with several fellow footballers, including Sergio Campana, Giacomo Bulgarelli, Sandro Mazzola, Ernesto Castano, Giancarlo De Sisti, and Gianni Rivera,

Tributes have poured in for Losi including from his former club.

A Roma statement reads: “‘As soon as I arrived in Rome, I fell in love.’

“You’ve always loved us, and we’ve always loved you. We mourn the loss of club legend Giacomo Losi.

“You will always be in our hearts, captain.”

One fan paid tribute saying: “Rest in peace comrade captain.”

Another added: “Since I was little, dad told me about you, about Captain Giacomo Losi, he showed me old black and white images and I got emotional.

“Today I am sad because you are gone, but what you did for our colours will always remain. 💛❤

And a third wrote: “Today, we say goodbye to Giacomo Losi, a great idol in Romanist history.

“Thank you for everything and go in peace to a better place, eternal Losi.”
