He had been battling dementia for some time prior to his passing.

The world of football will celebrate World Cup winner Sir Bobby with an emotional service in Manchester on Monday.

The funeral cortege will head to Old Trafford for 1.30pm, before it makes its way to Manchester Cathedral.

But according to The Star, the Glazers are not expected to be present.

This is because they are fearing a backlash from supporters who are keen to see them leave the club.

Man Utd declined to comment when approached by SunSport.

It is understood they held talks with senior officials at Man Utd and came to the conclusion it would be too big of a risk to attend the ceremony.

They are also keen to avoid negative headlines which detract from those paying tribute to Sir Bobby – who was a director at the club and ever-present at games until his dementia diagnosis in 2020.

If the family make a late decision to go to the funeral, Joel Glazer will represent the ownership.

The Glazers have been attempting to sell Man Utd for the past year.

But they have failed to do so and now look set to remain the majority stakeholders as Sir Jim Ratcliffe prepares to claim 25 per cent of the club.

This has been met with widespread disdain from Man Utd fans as they fear more years of the Glazers at the helm.
