A GOLFER at The Open issued a tongue-in-cheek apology to one person who has been forced to work harder than anyone else at Royal Troon this week.

Min Woo Lee showed sympathy for a worker on the course whose job it is to rake all the bunkers at Hole 8, which is called Postage Stamp.

There are five bunkers surrounding the green, meaning plenty of shots have landed in the sand.

Lee was one of those golfers who found the bunker with an approach shot, so afterwards pointed out the worker’s effort and apologised for giving him more work to do.

The golfer tweeted: “So if people didn’t know, there is a person that follows each group raking bunkers at the Open, but on 8 (postage stamp) there is a specific guy who does it.

“I feel bad for the fella, his arms are about to fall off. Sorry from the pros out here plus me 😂 #brutal”

Another man who had a nightmare on Hole 8 was Romain Langasque.

The Frenchman had enough and called it quits at the Postage Stamp in his opening round after following up his wayward tee shot with a chip that travelled just a few metres and ended up in the rough.

Langasque revealed afterwards that he suffered a back injury on the fourth hole, and thought it best not to continue.

Several other big-name players suffered in the opening round including Bryson DeChambeau and Rory McIlroy, who shot seven over par.
