Grimsby Town plunged into mourning as youth team star, 16, dies alongside his father

GRIMSBY TOWN are mourning the shocking and devastating death of a 16-year-old youth-team star.

Cameron Walsh died alongside his dad Dave on Saturday in a “tragic incident”.

It is unclear at this stage the exact cause of the fatalities.

But the Mariners put out a desperately sad statement this evening to confirm the heartbreaking news.

Grimsby Town said: “It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that Grimsby Town Football Club announces the untimely passing of one of our cherished youth team members, Cameron Walsh, aged 16, and his father Dave. The tragic incident occurred on Saturday, 6th January.

“Cameron Walsh was an integral part of the GTFC academy. His passion for the game, coupled with his undeniable talent, made him a much-loved figure among team-mates, coaches, and the entire Grimsby Town family.

“The Club is devastated by this heartbreaking loss and extends its deepest condolences to the family during this incredibly difficult time.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with them as they navigate through the pain and grief that comes with such a tragedy.

“The Club appreciates the outpouring of support from the football community and urges everyone to remember Cameron and Dave.

“We will pay tribute to Cameron and Dave at our game vs Notts County on Saturday (further details to follow).

“We understand that a GoFundMe page has been set up to support the family and we will communicate details of this, once confirmed.”

Grimsby also tweeted the news at 6.45pm this evening, prompting floods of messages of support from the football community.

One fan said: “A great lad and a great family. Personally know them and this is hard to take – always a Mariner.”

Another wrote: “Very very very sad.”

A third typed: “Desperately sad. A smashing kid and a hell of a player by all accounts too. Wishing the family all the strength at this difficult time.”

A Grimsby supporters’ group added: “Thoughts are with their family and friends at such an incredibly sad time. Both with be remembered fondly by many in the Town.”
