Harry Redknapp rings me on the M40 after every game whether we win or lose – he’s the best uncle ever

FRANK LAMPARD has revealed that his uncle, iconic football manager Harry Redknapp, calls him after every game he takes charge of.

Lampard, 46, has transformed Coventry City‘s season since taking over at the CBS Arena in November – and it could be down to the tips he’s getting from ‘Uncle Harry’.

The former England and Chelsea star is trying to rebuild his management career after unsuccessful spells in charge of The Blues and Everton.

But even if things weren’t going right he would still be getting a phone call off Harry on his way home.

Lampard revealed that the former Portsmouth and Tottenham boss is always ringing him up while he heads home on the M40.

Speaking on Football Focus, he said: “Uncle Harry is the best support ever.

“Harry rings me when I’m on the M40 after a game. Win are lose, particularly if we win.

“He’s like ‘I was following every bit of it me and Sandra [Redknapp’s wife], they came up, they scored…’, so I always appreciate that.

“And it’s always a wise word from him at the end of those things”.

Redknapp spent 34 years as a manager, taking charge of eight different clubs and winning two trophies.

But despite having one of English football‘s most experienced manager’s at his beck and call, Lampard is still opening his ears to the ideas of all the other coaches around him in the Championship.

The three-time Premier League champion explained that the age-old tradition of having a drink with your opposite number at full-time is still alive and kicking in the Championship.

He said: “The beauty of the Championship is we still have the tradition of coming in and having a glass of wine or a beer [with the opposition manager].

“It happens with most managers, one or two not. But that’s fine, some that’s cultural as well and the league is evolving for that.

“We’ve all got these different challenges and there’s some really, really good, not just young coaches, but coaches in this league.”

Whatever it is Lampard is learning, he’s certainly putting it to good use.

The retired midfield maestro inherited a Coventry side languishing in 17th spot, just two points above the relegation zone.

But he has since pulled them all the way up to play-off contenders, sitting fifth in the table and looking up.

Coventry have won nine of their last 10 league matches, only losing to league leaders Leeds United.

The Sky Blues are now staring the very real prospect of making the play-offs and giving Lampard a second crack at taking a team to the Premier League.

The 106-time England international led Derby County to the play-offs in the 2018-19 season, ultimately losing to Aston Villa in the final at Wembley.
