‘He’ll remember it for the rest of his life’ – Ice hockey star scores glancing header in very rarely seen NHL feat

AN ICE Hockey player pulled off a rarely seen feat in the NHL as he scored with his head.

Will Cuylle was credited with the game winner in the New York Rangers’ victory over the New York Islanders.

One fan joked it was similar to Cristiano Ronaldo’s iconic header for Juventus[/caption]

Cuylle, 23, did not know much about the goal as the puck rattled his helmet.

After bouncing off the left-winger’s head it looped up over the goaltender and into the net.

A player can not score by intentionally kicking, throwing or batting the puck into the net.

However, a goal will stand if the puck has deflected off a player’s body or skate, including their head.

Fans were stunned by the goal as a clip of it was shared on social media.

One posted: “Get to the net and good things happen.”

A second wrote: “Wow.”

A third commented: “Will Cuylle taking ‘use your head’ literally.”

A fourth said: “Will Cuylle using the old noggin.”

Another added: “It reminds me of Cristiano Ronaldo‘s header against Sampdoria.”

He also set up a goal in the game[/caption]

He was asked about the moment after the game.

He said: “I saw it coming so I just got my face out of the way and whatever happens happens.”

Cuylle followed up his goal with an assist which made it his seventh multi-point game of the season.

He has taken his tally to six points over his last seven appearances.

The Rangers went on to achieve a shutout 4-0 victory as goaltender Igor Shesterkin made 21 saves.

Head coach Peter Laviolette hailed the shutout when he spoke postgame.

He said: “I thought we were really good.

“Shesterkin made big saves when he needed to, I thought we were really good in front of him.

“Guys were heavy right in front of him, blocked shots, heavy on sticks and eliminated second opportunities.”

When asked about Cullye’s “flukey” goal, he added: “He [Cullye] has been really good.

“The fact that he’s chipped in offence all year, he’s been a big part of the penalty kill now and so his role just keeps expanding and he’s growing into it.

“He certainly had an impact in the game tonight.

“Taking the hit to make a play and then shorthanded part of it.

“The goal, a real beauty, one he’ll remember for the rest of his life.

“Really strong game by him, by everybody really.”

Last month, an NHL announcer turned the air blue as he took a puck to the face during the Buffalo Sabres’ 8-2 win over the Rangers.
