Horse racing punter wins ‘astonishing’ life-changing amount from £2 bet at Wolverhampton

THIS racing punter was celebrating after turning £2 into just shy of £90,000 with a once-in-a-lifetime bet at Wolverhampton.

The William Hill customer somehow managed to pick the winner of all eight races on Saturday evening.

They put £1 each way on the monster eight-fold accumulator and watched as one by one then came home to land a return of £89,635.88.

Incredibly, no horse was bigger than 13-2 Cosmos Raj, the fourth horse on the card to win.

And it was one dominated by those runners at the head of the market.

But on all-weather track as tricky as Wolverhampton it takes a monumental effort to pick out the winner of every race.

Even more so as the punter managed to back a load of the runners at prices bigger than SP (starting price).

One More Wave kicked off the punt by winning the 5pm race at evens before Blue Collar Lad prevailed at 5-2 in the next.

Savannah Smiles won at 5-1 before Cosmos Raj kept the acca rolling.

Angel Of Antrim was a 4-1 winner ahead of 5-2 At Liberty.

Bungle Bay’s victory at 11-4 in the penultimate race – a 7f Class contest – meant it all hinged on teenage jockey Billy Loughnane in the last.

The punter put Sunblock in their bet at 10-3 and the George Boughey runner was backed into 11-4.

The three-year-old filly switched right after a steady start and made good headway a furlong from home.

Then she hit the front in the final 100 yards or so and kept on well to secure the monumental payout.

William Hill were licking their wounds after being turned over to such an extent – but spokesperson Lee Phelps congratulated the bettor on their ‘astonishing’ win.

He said: “The card at Wolverhampton certainly wasn’t the most high-profile on Saturday, but it proved to be a pretty memorable one for a William Hill customer.

“In seriously impressive fashion, the punter managed to find the winner of every one of the eight races on the card, and in doing so won themselves just shy of £90,000.

“What was all the more impressive was that they won the haul from just a £1 each-way bet.

“I’m sure there were a few celebrations after the final selection, Sunblock, got the job done!”

It also means the punter can have a go at Cheltenham Festival with a huge war chest behind them, should they wish.

Racing’s biggest meeting starts off with the famous roar next Tuesday.
