MONBEG GENIUS (2.50 Newbury, nap)

He looks the type of progressive chaser you need for this hot contest. He enjoyed an excellent first second over fences, scoring at Newcastle before landing a couple of Chepstow handicaps.

He was then a close-up third in the Ultima at the Cheltenham Festival behind National winner Corach Rambler and a neck off Fastorslow who has since beaten Gold Cup winner Galopin Des Champs twice.

That’s hot form and the Jonjo O’Neill hopeful was going well on comeback at Ascot earlier this month before one costly mistake. He’ll be spot on for this and looks very well weighted on a handicap mark of 147.

UNDER CONTROL (2.15 Newbury, nb)

She can give Nicky Henderson his fourth win in the past five runnings of this race. He started Epatante here four years ago and this filly runs in the same JP McManus colours as that champion.

She landed good handicap wins at Cheltenham and Sandown last season and is best over this distance. She goes well fresh and has had a wind op ahead of this comeback.

REAL STONE (3.25 Newbury, treble)

He looked a different horse when sluicing in by 20 lengths at Haydock last weekend. The handicapper has been more than lenient with an 8lb rise in the weights.

He showed fair pace over this trip and his excellent jumping really caught the eye. He can strike again for the Skeltons while in this heart.
