Horse racing tips: Templegate’s 9-1 NAP looks in great form for day four of Glorious Goodwood

9 months ago 82

TEMPLEGATE tackles the Friday of Glorious Goodwood confident of finding a few winners.

Read on for our man’s top tips and back a horse by clicking their odds.

TACARIB BAY (3.00 Goodwood, nap)

He ran right up to his best when sixth in the 25-runner International Stakes at Ascot last weekend. He had the worst of the draw and was a comfortable winner on his side. He’s back from the same mark and won’t mind stepping up to a mile.

HIGHFIELD PRINCESS (3.35 Goodwood, nb)

She should have too much class for these rivals. She has three Group 1 winners on her CV and has hit the frame on all starts this season. And they have been at the highest level with a second in the King’s Stand and the Jubilee Stakes at Royal Ascot in June. She’s had a break since then and won’t mind what the ground does today.

NOSTRUM (2.25 Goodwood, treble)

He put up one of the most impressive performances of the season when winning the Listed Sir Henry Cecil Stakes at Newmarket last time. He was coming back from nine months off and will hopefully take another step forward from that. That victory came on quick ground and the going is the only slight worry if it’s still on the easy side.

Templegate’s TV verdicts

1.50

TEMPORIZE was a good second upped to two miles at Ascot last time and this even longer trip should be ideal.

He was involved in a real battle for the lead and kept going right to the line.

He has actually had a 1lb drop in the weights for that effort and handles any ground. He can go close again under Luke Morris in a wide open contest.

Typewriter enjoyed moving up to the marathon distance of the Queen Alexandra Stakes at Royal Ascot when finishing fourth. She hasn’t won for a while but is handicapped to go close here.

Hydroplane stayed on well when second over two miles here when last seen in May.

He goes on any ground and his liking for the track is a plus.

Land Of Winter wasn’t stopping when scoring over two miles at Beverley 17 days ago. He has winning form here and a 3lb rise in the weights gives him every chance.

Calling The Wind won this in 2021 from a 9lb lower mark. He ran one of his best races since then when winning the Northumberland Vase on the all-weather at Newcastle latest.

Giving the weight away won’t be easy but he’ll be on the premises.

Tritonic was a good third in the Ascot Stake and stays this far over hurdles. He is only 3lb higher than his last win and can’t be ignored.

Veteran The Grand Visir was an excellent second in the Queen Alexandra and will relish every yard of this trip.

He hasn’t won since 2019 but it wouldn’t be a shock to see him in the frame if your bookie pays extra places.

NOSTRUM put up one of the most impressive performances of the season when winning the Listed Sir Henry Cecil Stakes at Newmarket last time.

He was coming back from nine months off and will hopefully take another step forward from that.

That victory came on quick ground and the going is the only slight worry if it’s still on the easy side.

Docklands is progressing fast and made it three wins on the spin in the 29-strong Britannia Stakes at Royal Ascot.

He won on softer ground before that impressive success and deserves this hike in grade.

Bold Discovery came good with a Listed win over this trip at The Curragh last month.

He had a bit more in hand than the winning margin of half a length and is respected coming from Jessica Harrington.

Epictetus was tipped for the very top when winning an Epsom Listed contest on return.

That’s not quite happened but the form of his close-up Dante fifth would give him a chance. He was poor at Royal Ascot last time though.

Galeron has his sights lowered here after finishing fourth and fifth in the Newmarket and Curragh Guineas.

He was well beaten in the St James’s Palace Stakes but this should be easier.

Knight hasn’t been seen since a modest comeback run in the Greenham Stakes at Newbury in April and is best watched against this level of opposition.

TACARIB BAY ran right up to his best when sixth in the 25-runner International Stakes at Ascot last weekend.

He had the worst of the draw and was a comfortable winner on his side. He’s back from the same mark and won’t mind stepping up to a mile.

Perotto ended his losing run with a gutsy big-field win at Sandown last month.

He has scored off higher marks than this and the booking of Ryan Moore catches the eye.

Lattam has run three big races this season, starting with a win in the Irish Lincoln.

He then went close at Newbury before an all-weather success at Newcastle. He would like more rain as soft ground is ideal and there’s more to come.

Blue For You is up the weights since his second in this race last year but he won nicely at York last time. A 3lb penalty gives him every chance of following up.

Bopedro had all sorts of trouble in running in the International Stakes last time. He is better over this mile and is capable of figuring.

Awaal is consistent and went close again at Newmarket last time. The cheekpieces and a 3lb claiming jockey could help.

3.35

HIGHFIELD PRINCESS should have too much class for these rivals.

She has three Group 1 winners on her CV and has hit the frame on all starts this season.

And they have been at the highest level with a second in the King’s Stand and the Jubilee Stakes at Royal Ascot in June.

She’s had a break since then and won’t mind what the ground does today.

Equality looks the main danger looking for a winning hat-trick.

He won a hot handicap at Windsor before stepping up in quality to see off his rivals in a Sandown Group 3 last month.

Charles Hills’ hope has another gap to bridge here but Ryan Moore taking over on top can only enhance his chances.

And the trainer knows what it takes to win this having done it three times with Bataash and Khaadem last season.

Equilateral has been running well without winning and has place claims again.

He held his own in the King’s Stand last time and has enough pace to challenge for a place again.

Johnny Murtagh sends Ladies Church over but she needs to show more than her modest effort at The Curragh last time.

She did well in Dubai last spring and a repeat of that form would give her an each-way shout.

Makarova chased home Equality at Sandown on the back of a good Listed win at Ayr.

This is tougher but trainer Ed Walker is in decent form.

Nymphadora showed good pace to win in Listed company at York. She has her sights raised here but rain would help as heavy ground is right up her street.

4.10

HAMISH is hard to beat at this level and dug deep to win at York 20 days ago.

He has lots of staying power but dropping back to this distance holds no fears, especially if there’s still a bit of juice in the ground which William Haggas’ seven-year-old loves.

Mimikyu is taking a drop in class after going close at Group 2 level at Haydock last time.

She is another with plenty of staying power having gone close over 1m6f in the Bronte Cup at York on comeback.

She handles any ground and it’s interesting that the Gosdens have reached for the first-time cheekpieces which may help Frankie’s mount.

Andrew Balding is having a good week and his Teumessias Fox is another to consider.

He kicked off this season with two good wins over this trip, including a hot handicap at Newmarket.

He has been below form on his past two starts Ryan Moore gets on board for the first time today which could see him find his best form.

Haggas also runs Candleford who came back from a break with a solid Listed effort here in June.

He looked rusty there and should improve for the run. He has been placed at this level before and can’t be discounted.

Hard One To Please has strong form in Scandinavia where he won the Norwegian Derby and a Group 3 in Sweden both over this distance.

He beat a former Group 1 winner in Outbox there so is no mug. It wouldn’t be a shock if he ran into the frame under Jim Crowley.

4.45

LOADED GUN clocked a personal best when winning at Chester last time.

The ground was soft that day but he showed good pace to get up on the line.

He was a close-up third here before that so there are no worries about handling the track and he makes his handicap debut from a fair mark under Ryan Moore.

Starlust had a bit up his sleeve when winning on his first turf run at Newbury.

Ralph Beckett’s youngster looks capable of taking a step forward and is proven over this trip.

Mauna Loa landed a cosy success at Pontefract and hasn’t been clobbered by the handicapper. She looks capable of better.

Flag Of St George understandably found the Coventry Stakes a bit much after landing a Newmarket maiden.

He bounced back with a close-up second at Windsor last time and is right in the hunt.

Swordplay hasn’t done a lot wrong on his three starts to date.

He won at Hamilton over this trip before a fair Yarmouth third. He stays well and the Johnstons have won this race before.

Stablemate Specific Times has been hiked 9lb for winning at York on handicap debut over this distance.

That means he’ll have to pull out more but there’s every chance he will.

Betties Bay battled hard to win in a photo at Newbury over this distance 14 days ago. The handicapper has been a bit harsh with an opening mark of 84.

The King’s Serried Ranks needs to show more than at Salisbury latest where he was only fifth.

5.20

ROARING LEGEND is consistent and can go close in this ultra-tough handicap.

Top 3lb claimer Harry Davies has been booked and that could make the difference after a close second at Hamilton last time.

He has winning form over this distance and should be right in the mix again.

Ryan Moore takes over on Nader King who looked in need of strong handling when second at Salisbury last time.

He took the step up to this distance in his stride and is open to improvement for Sir Michael Stoute.

Maso Bastie looks capable of better after a fair third on handicap debut at Newcastle on the all-weather.

There was an early crawl there that didn’t help.

There won’t be any problem with pace here and the James Fanshawe runner can improve.

Sovereign Spirit was a tight second at Newbury and is a fair 5lb higher than his last win, which came at Beverley in June. This trip suits and he won’t be far away.

Dancing In Paris could find more for moving up to this distance after a decent effort at Sandown last week. He goes on any ground, which is a plus.

Balance Play had lots left in the tank when winning over 1m2f at Chester and looks a contender.

He went well at Epsom earlier so should handle this tricky track too.

Sir Mark Prescott has a chance with True Legend who scooted in at Salisbury six days ago. He can figure despite a 6lb penalty.
