Horse racing tips: Templegate’s NAP looks a talented colt who can score with Rossa Ryan in the saddle

TEMPLEGATE tackles Wednesday’s racing hellbent on landing you a few winners – but with Ffos Las and Huntingdon abandoned there’s only action from Kempton.

ENGINEER (7.00 Kempton, nap)

Clive Cox throws this talented colt into a handicap for the first time after three solid efforts at novice level. He kicked off his career with a close-up third over course and distance in September before more than matching that effort when striking at Wolverhampton. Cox brought him back to this track after that where he was second to a nice prospect in Mukaafah for the Shadwell Stud. Some useful horses were in behind that day and the form looks solid enough. The handicapper has been fair with an opening mark of 80 and it will be disappointing if he doesn’t end up a lot higher than that in time. Rossa Ryan rode more winners than any other jockey in 2023 and is having his first rides of the new year tonight.

MCLEAN HOUSE (8.00 Kempton, nb)

Had a bit left in the tank when scoring by a neck here 21 days ago. He made it a perfect three from three at the track when edging in front yards from the line. All of his victories have been over this specialist seven-furlong trip and a 4lb rise looks fair for Andrew Balding’s four-year-old. He got on well with William Carver last time and his claim is another plus. He has few miles on the clock and there should be more to come.

LEGACY POWER (7.30 Kempton, treble)

He looks chucked in for this handicap debut from a mark of just 73 after three good maiden efforts. He seemed to enjoy stepping up to this sort of trip when second at Wolverhampton last time out in November. He’s been gelded since then and the capable Callum Hutchinson takes off 3lb for good measure. He can go close.

Lucky 15 bet

EM JAY KAY (6.30 Kempton)

Has been going a lot closer than his form figures of 445 suggest. He has been beaten a total of less than three lengths in those races and went well again at Lingfield 14 days ago. He has had a little nudge down the weights and this looks a good chance to earn a well deserved victory with veteran John Egan taking his reins for the first time.
