FOOTBALL fans have been left baffled by a “glitch in the Matrix” during River Plate’s Derby clash with Boca Juniors.

The bizarre incident occurred after River Plate were awarded a free-kick deep in the opposition’s half.

Have watched this 50 times: did it hit the crossbar or did Sergio Romero catch it… or both?!

But the ball appeared to bounce back off the crossbar

Ezequiel Barco whipped the ball into the box and former Manchester United goalkeeper Sergio Romero caught the goal-bound ball.

But a strange glitch left fans confused as the ball appeared to bounce back off the crossbar.

A slow motion replay of the incident makes that even more apparent, despite the ball ending up in Romero’s arms.

One puzzled fan reacted saying: “I thought it was just me! 😂 I was like “ooooh!” Thinking it hit the bar, then was like “ohh wait, he caught it.. what?”

Another added: “Weird. Could it have been a bird that flew past? Or a ghost lol.”

A third wrote: “Schrödinger’s Crossbar.”

And another commented: “Glitch in the Matrix.”

Just last month another incident involving a South American team had fans claiming there was a “glitch in the Matrix”.
