Huge Royal Ascot wins keep racking up as punter turns 5p bet into £3,000 thanks to 40-1 winner

A PUNTER turned a 5p leg of a bet into a £2,950 payout thanks to a shock 40-1 winner.

The bettor staked £16 in all on a combination of horses to finish 1-2-3 in that order in the last race of day two at Royal Ascot.

Rising Star was a 40-1 winner – but it was also the 40-1 runner-up and 22-1 third that helped the punter land a huge winner[/caption]

Incredibly, shrewd judge Andrew Mount not only unearted rank outsider Rising Star for jockey Neil Callan and Marco Botti.

He also found 40-1 runner-up Random Harvest for jockey Saffie Osborne and trainer Ed Walker.

As well as 22-1 third-place finisher Isola Rossa under jockey Hayley Turner and trainer James Fanshawe.

And he correctly predicted they would finish in that order as well.

Templegate NAPS football superagent to win big with wonderhorse on day three

If you had put a quid on the tricast it would have paid a whopping £53,667.80 in all.

That’s more than connections got for winning the race!

The Mamba Racing group were cheering to the tune of £51,540 after victory in the Kensington Palace Stakes, a one-mile handicap for fillies and mares.

This was the second big winner in as many days – with a few very expensive and hard luck stories along the way.

One punter landed a £100,000 windfall after a ‘huge’ bookie ‘over-pay’.

Dubai Future returned a shock 20-1 winner in the Wolferton Stakes but due to the punter betting with the Tote, they were paid out at a much bigger 28-1.

It is not known exactly how much the mystery punter staked, or whether it was a win only or each way poke.

But either way, the colossal six-figure payout was likely the biggest anywhere in the world on day one of Flat racing’s biggest meeting.

And betting on the Tote – a slightly different form of bookie but regularly seen at racecourses – ensured an even bigger win.

It wasn’t the same for everyone, though.

One punter with very deep pockets suffered a sickening £110,000 loss after backing hot favourite Bay Bridge to win the Prince Of Wales’s Stakes.

The Sir Michael Stoute-trained runner finished a length second to 5-1 State Of Rest.

While another bettor lost £15,000 backing Persian Force to win the Coventry – only for the colt to finish second as well.

And this punter missed out on £9,000 after cashing out their bet early.
