ONE of UFC 300’s main attractions has been branded a “USELESS FIGHT” by one of the promotion’s dominant champions.

Mixed martial arts’ top organisation hosts its 300th pay-per-view event in Las Vegas next weekend.

The card is chockablock with entertaining fights, with ten former or current undisputed champions competing in the Sin City extravaganza.

The eyes of casual fans will likely be drawn to the BMF title fight between fan favourites Justin Gaethje and Max Holloway – the latter of whom will be moving up from featherweight to lightweight.

The booking raised eyebrows as beloved bruiser Gaethje was in pole position to fight 155 king Islam Makhchev, who believes the fight is utterly pointless.

The Russian told MMA Junkie: “I don’t want to make people upset, but this is a useless fight for a useless belt.

“Nobody gains anything from this fight. I have three guys [in line to fight me].

“[Arman] Tsarukyan, [Charles] Oliveira, and Gaethje.

“But Tsarukyan and Oliveira – I beat them already. But I have Gaethje – he deserves to fight for the title now. This is a good time for him.”

Pound-for-pound king Makhachev would have topped the UFC 300 bill if President and CEO Dana White would’ve had his way.

The Makhachkala mauler was offered a shock crack at welterweight king Leon Edwards during the promotion’s scramble for a mouthwatering main event.

But the 32-year-old turned down the bout as he was observing Ramadan.

When asked if he was asked to headline the card against Edwards, Makhachev told MMA Junkie: “Honestly, yes.

“But it’s not possible, man. Because we have Ramadan now.

“One month with fasting, and it’s not possible to do training in Ramadan.

“It’s very hard. You have to fast when the sun rises, and all day you have to fast.

“Training this time is very hard.

“I asked Ali [Abdelaziz] can they push the UFC 300 like two weeks, I will be ready, but he said it’s not possible.”
