LUCA BRECEL has revealed how he nearly missed out on his £60,000 prize pot due to his car being towed.

The former world snooker champion teamed up with Reanna Evans to beat Mark Selby and Rebecca Kenna 4-2 to win the World Mixed Doubles final on Sunday.

But the Belgian Bullet, 29, has now opened up on how his day started in nightmare fashion.

After parking in the wrong area, his car was towed, forcing him to travel to pick it up and almost missing the final and what resulted in a £60,000 prize.

Brecel told ITV: “I parked my car in the wrong place and it got taken away, so I had to go and get it just before the final and then just about made it back in time.

“Crazy story. But luckily, I made it in time.”

On his performance, he said: “I started off well and played a bit better than before, but not as good as I would have liked.

“It was still good enough to win, but I’m still not happy with the way we played. I guess Reanne will say the same, but I’m really happy to win this great tournament.

“I was already feeling much better in my game the last few months and winning this title helps a lot.

“Now I’m really looking forward to Sheffield (for the World Snooker Championship).”

Brecel’s partner Evans then joked that she would have given him a tow if she knew that it would spur him on to such a performance.

And she then thanked the world No.4 for his efforts and admitted that Brecel “carried” her to victory.

Evans added: “(It’s) most definitely (special) – 22 years to play on TV and win a final.

“I know Luca carried me a little bit, and if I had known, I’d have towed his car right at the start of yesterday if he played like that.

“I’ve been playing a long time and it’s fantastic to be lifting a trophy and play in a final like this alongside all these great players.

“The crowd have been fantastic as well and I’ve really enjoyed myself. Yes, we didn’t play amazingly; we played a little bit better in the final and hopefully we can come back and try again.”

Brecel splashed out on a stunning £250,000 Ferrari in May 2023, which we are unsure if it was that what he was driving over the weekend.

That was after he sensationally won the World Snooker Championship at the Crucible to claim his first world title and the cheque for £500,000.

He slayed seven-time winner Ronnie O’Sullivan on route to the final, where he beat Mark Selby 18-15.

He then treated himself to a Ferrari488 – worth £250,000, roughly half his Crucible earnings – following his victory.

Then, in November, Brecel revealed he is no longer a millionaire after buying a fleet of supercars.
