The 20-year-old Dane joined the Red Devils from Atalanta for £72m last summer.

Even though he scored five times in the Champions League group stages for them, the star has struggled so far domestically.

However, he finally ended his 1016 minute and 15 game drought by scoring the winner in the 3-2 victory over Aston Villa last month but has since fired blanks in the defeat at Nottingham Forest and in the FA Cup win over Wigan.

Hojlund has faced criticism for his lack of Premier League goals, with ex-United star Paul Scholes stating that he was “lucky to be on the pitch” after his barren run.

Meanwhile, fellow Red Devils legend Paul Parker defended him and claimed that the forward must be “frustrated” by his team-mates over the lack of opportunities he is getting.

Now another of the club’s old star’s has joined the debate by claiming he knows exactly what Hojlund is going through and stating that they know how to help him.

Bulgarian striker Dimitar Berbatov helped Tottenham to win the 2008 League Cup in his final season before his big move to United for a then club-record £30.75m.

He won four trophies, including two titles, with the Red Devils and scored 56 goals in 149 appearances before leaving for Fulham in 2012.

And ahead of Sunday’s showdown between his former clubs United and Spurs, he offered some advice to Hojlund.

Speaking to The Mirror, he said: “I know exactly what he was going through when he didn’t score a goal because every striker have a spell with not scoring goal, maybe a short one, maybe a long one.

“I know how difficult it can be in that circle of thinking ‘Am I ever going to score a goal? What is going on? Am I good enough? Am I doing enough for my teammates, for myself?’

“All this thinking going through my mind and how difficult it is to think like that.

“He needs to stop thinking like this. That is negative thinking. It’s going to put you nowhere. It’s the simple things.

“Go to the training ground and if you need to, stand in the front of the empty goal, take someone to cross you the ball and tap-in, tap-in, tap-in and move further from the goal. Do the same. Further, do the same.

“Try different positions just to get the habit of knowing the goal. Implement this into training and this is it.”
