SIR ALEX FERGUSON won 38 trophies in his 26 years at Manchester United – but was once on the verge of losing his job.
The legendary boss took over at Old Trafford in 1986 and was supposedly one game from the sack after four years in charge.

Reports at the time said that Ferguson would be axed if he lost against Forest.
But in the end, the Red Devils won 1-0 with Mark Robins heading home a cross from Mark Hughes.
The win proved to be a turning point in the club’s history as they went on to win the FA Cup that year and kick-start their domination of English football.
Robins also scored the winning goal in the semi-final against Oldham en route to lifting the trophy.
The 54-year-old is now Coventry‘s manager and he has taken them from League Two to challenging for promotion to the Premier League – and the FA Cup semi-final this year after the stunning late comeback win over Wolves.
On saving Fergie’s job and taking it for granted, Robins said: “It was my breakthrough season, to score a goal in the FA Cup third round is something you do look back on with fondness.
“Anybody scoring in the FA Cup is special.

“I thought this was normal, this is great, winning the FA Cup was the last time I played in a final. That is a slight regret.”
Robins, who was a striker, struggled to nail down a spot in United’s team after his heroics.
He eventually ended up leaving and going on to play for several clubs like Norwich and Leicester.
Robins now has dreams of creating more FA Cup history with Coventry.
His Sky Blues team secured an incredible 3-2 comeback win over Wolves with two last-gasp goals.
They are now have a semi-final trip to Wembley to look forward to.
