MICHAEL NDIWENI has swapped the Premier League for Scotland’s League One — but can’t wait to get stuck in at Annan Athletic.

The Newcastle United forward joined Peter Murphy’s side on loan, months after he helped the Magpies to a 4-1 win over Chelsea.

Ndiweni, 20, was handed a full debut by Eddie Howe in November but reckons a stint at Galabank can be the making of him.

The Toon ace said: “My debut against Chelsea was a surreal experience. So many footballers won’t get to do that and I was extremely proud.

“Newcastle are my boyhood club and it’s something I will never forget.

“It showed that all the hard work I have put in so far can pay off.

“It was special for me and I got presented with a Premier League Debut Ball, which is given to all the academy players who play for their club’s senior team.

“To follow the likes of Elliot Anderson, Lewis Miley and Paul Dummett in doing that was a big thing for me. I know Paul had a successful loan spell in Scotland with St Mirren before going back, so hopefully I can emulate him.

“I’ve had a little taste of first-team football with Newcastle and I will do everything in my power to get there again.

“But for the next few months I am focused on doing the best I can for Annan. It’s going really well and I’ve settled in already. It’s a nice club and I am looking forward to the rest of the season.

“I want to play senior games in a really competitive league and build my confidence.

“Annan are a really good team and hopefully I can gain experience to take back to Newcastle.

“I am still training with my team during the week and then I work with Annan too — so it’s the best of both worlds.”

Ndiweni’s kid brother Ethan is 15 and in the Newcastle academy, while 17-year-old sibling Ryan is at Blyth Spartans after leaving St James’ Park.

He said: “We all play and my dad coached us all when we were young.”
