I’ve sussed out a 4-1 good thing who will take a world of beating on day four of Glorious Goodwood

9 months ago 70

THERE might not be a Group 1 race on ITV at Glorious Goodwood today.

But there’s definitely one Group 1 horse and almost certainly two!

Marquand has been in awesome form and Chappers reckons he’s a banker in the big handicap on day four of GoodwoodPA

Star sprinter Highfield Princess will be strutting her hooves much to the delight of her fan club.

But it’s Nostrum (2.25) many purists will be excited to see, having skipped the Sussex Stakes on Wednesday.

Nostrum is due to line up in the Bonhams Thoroughbred Stakes, a Group 3 over a mile.

The son of Kingman will be at short odds, having blitzed his rivals in Listed company on seasonal debut at Newmarket.

That suggested he was out the top draw, something backed up by a third last season in the Dewhurst.

Sir Michael Stoute has been patient, and many hoped Nostrum would have been in the Sussex.

But after the rain came and Paddington scooted in, maybe it looked a wise call.

Especially as they would have needed a new jockey.

He has to score well this afternoon under Ryan Moore to be considered a ‘proper’ tool… not that it will be a cakewalk.

Docklands is in opposition for Hayley Turner and Harry Eustace, and he looked a machine when landing the Britannia at Royal Ascot.

This is a different level of task and type of event, but Docklands almost certainly will be landing a Group prize at some stage.

It’s all about speed in the King George Qatar Stakes, a Group 2 over five furlongs.

To be honest, the older sprinters are not great, and the usual culprits give this a go.

The exception to the rule is HIGHFIELD PRINCESS (3.35) who should really be too good in conditions she will enjoy.

The John Quinn-trained filly landed the Flying Five at the Curragh on soft ground and the Group 1 Nunthorpe on good to firm so she goes on anything.

Regular rider Jason Hart is on top.

Equality is improving but has to take another step forward to deny Highfield Princess, while Nymphadora scored in style last time.

Day four of ITV at Glorious Goodwood gets under way with the Coral Goodwood Handicap over an extended two and a half miles where they start in front of the stands and go reverse up the track!

LAW OF THE SEA (1.50) was absolutely hopeless in the Northumberland Plate when I fancied him to run a huge race and will have to be in different shape here.

That said, his fourth in the Ascot Stakes and Chester Cup give him every chance of reaching a place at least.

Finally on paper there is a hugely competitive handicap for the Coral Golden Mile. But I think LATTAM (3.00) is a good thing here.

It can’t be soft enough for him and he has a lovely racing weight. Lattam has a fine draw and with Tom Marquand on top must take a world of beating.
