FORMER Manchester United youth star Robbie Savage has admitted he considers his time at Old Trafford to be a “failure”.
The ex-Leicester, Birmingham and Blackburn midfielder, 49, was a part of the Red Devils’ famous 1992 FA Youth Cup-winning team.
He never featured for the Red Devils’ first team[/caption]Savage played alongside a star-studded side that included David Beckham, Gary Neville, Nicky Butt and Ryan Giggs.
But unlike that quartet, the Wales international never made an appearance for Man Utd‘s first team.
And Savage has now opened up about falling short at the Theatre of Dreams.
Speaking to FourFourTwo on behalf of Planet Sport Bet, he was asked how to describe his time at Man Utd in one word.
To which he replied: “Failure. I was in the Class of ’92 and my time there was unbelievable – there’ll never be a group like that ever again, with that many players going on to what they did.
“We won the FA Youth Cup and we were a tight group: a lot of us were in digs and we’d go and do extra training together, we were so close. I learned so much under Eric Harrison.
“But when you’re at Manchester United, your aim is to play for the first team.”
Nearly two decades after Savage won the FA Youth Cup with Man Utd, his son, Charlie, made his first-team debut for the club.

The young midfielder came on during a Champions League match against Young Boys at Old Trafford in December 2021.
Savage Sr was watching on from the stands as he commentated on the game for BT Sport.
And, as a proud dad, he insists he would much rather his son have made it at Man Utd over him.
He added: “My son did it – he played in the first team, so he achieved his goal.
“If you’d said to me all those years ago, ‘Your son will play in the first team but you won’t – would you take that?’, of course I would have done.
“I failed, but when Charlie came on against Young Boys, that meant far more to me.”
Charlie did not play another game for Man Utd before he was loaned out to Forest Green for the 2022/23 campaign.
He then left Man Utd permanently in the summer, signing for Reading where he has played 30 games this season.
