Iconic Premier League stadium to be partially reopened for Man Utd clash in huge boost for fans

LIVERPOOL have been working on the Anfield Road stand expansion since 2021 and it could finally be about to open up.

The iconic Anfield Stadium has been under reconstruction for over two years as the club try and bump up the capacity.

And despite a recent statement from the club claiming fans wouldn’t be able to get into the top tier of newly built stand until 2024, things might be about to change.

According to This is Anfield, the stand is set to partially open up in time for The Reds’ clash with fierce rivals Manchester United on December 17.

It comes after delays were announced to the development following the building firm who were working on the stand, Buckingham Group, filing for administration.

Before the collapse of the building contractors, the Anfield Road stand was scheduled to open up in time for the first game of the season.

Now four months on and it is understood that the stand could be as much as half full for the game against the Red Devils.

The building works are set to increase Anfield’s overall capacity from 56,000 to 61,000 – making it the fourth largest ground in the Premier League.

Before any confirmation can be made about the stand being open for use Liverpool City Council will need to sign off on the development by viewing a public test event with 3,000 people.

But if everything is ticked off then Liverpool could see more fans let into the ground for the festive period.

It is said that should the stand be used for the Man Utd game then it will also be available for the West Ham, Arsenal and Newcastle games that follow.

Fans will be delighted with the news as more supporters will be able to watch the Merseyside club play.

It is reported that the club are going to prioritise access to the tickets in the new stand to those fans who had their previous tickets cancelled due to the delays.
