Club chiefs hope that the expansion will be completed during next season.

In addition to extra seating for fans, the North Stand development is set to incorporate several other features.

A 400-bed hotel will open as part of the build.

While club bosses are also keen on opening a new shop and museum.

Indeed, Manchester City want the new Etihad Stadium development to establish their matchday experience as “one of the best in world sport”.

In latest pictures, the basic foundations of the new build can be seen in place.

The full development is scheduled to be completed by late 2026.

A further new feature will see City fans able to watch matches from a “sky bar” overlooking the pitch.

When completed, the redeveloped part of the Etihad will stand opposite the new Co-Op Live arena.

The indoor venue, which sits within Etihad Campus, holds more than 20,000 fans, and has already hosted several concerts, as well as UFC 304.

Etihad Stadium, formerly known as the City of Manchester Stadium, opened in 2002 ahead of the Commonwealth Games.

Following the Games it was converted into a football stadium, with its running track removed and City moving in for the 2003-04 season.

Since then the South Stand has been expanded, with a third tier added ahead of the 2015-16 campaign.

The record football attendance at the stadium currently stands at 54,693 – for City’s clash with eventual champions Leicester in February 2016.
