While Jack Carlin and Emma Finucane are both medal hopefuls in the Men’s Keirin and the Women’s Sprint and Keirin respectively.

And they have been given a terrific chance of claiming gold thanks to Team GB’s £55,000 bikes.

The British Hope bike, which is manufactured by Lotus, has used the best technology available to give the Team GB riders the upper hand in the velodrome.

The frame alone costs £25,000 while the energy saving disc wheels come in at £2,700 each.

The designers have drawn on inspiration from fighter jets for the forks, with a serrated inside edge that are intended to encourage air flow.

Riders will also benefit from specialised tyres designed to withstand double the pressure of a normal road bike.

While Team GB’s 3D printed seat post has set them back £2000 and the saddle £600 – while custom made socks aimed at maximising aerodynamics are priced at a whopping £720.

Mark Cavendish wore socks that cost a reported £1000 as he broke the record for most stage wins at the Tour de France during this year’s edition, which were designed to smooth out the airflow.

However the cost of that bike pales in comparison to the £108,000 outlay Japan have spent on their Olympic track bike.

Team GB’s world class design helped them dominate the track cycling world championships last year, finishing top of the medal table with five golds.

Their total of nine medals trumped all of their rivals and they are well placed to replicate that success in Paris.
