Leandro Trossard’s weak effort had just enough on it to beat Alex Palmer and give the Gunners the lead in the 14th minute.

The Belgian was involved again in the build-up to Arsenal’s second as Gabriel Martinelli tapped home his 50th goal for the club.

Leif Davis was sent off before the break for a late challenge on Bukayo Saka to compound a shocking half for Kieran McKenna’s side.

Trossard sparked life into what had been a drab second half as he fired past Palmer for the second time in the 69th minute.

Ethan Nwaneri made it four when Dara O’Shea deflected his effort in the closing stages.

One concern for the Gunners was an injury scare to Saka, who ended the match with his ankle wrapped in ice on the bench after being subbed.
