‘It should be classed as a swimming pool’, moan Man Utd fans as Bournemouth water soggy pitch at half-time

FANS were left stunned after Bournemouth opted to water the pitch again at half-time.

The pitch was noticeably water-logged near the Bournemouth penalty area in the first half, with the ball slowing down when United attacked or the Cherries played the ball out of defence.

The wet area of the pitch appeared to be a result of over watering before the game, given that it was a dry sunny day in Bournemouth.

A picture of Amad Diallo warming up at half-time confirmed that despite parts of the pitch looking waterlogged, the sprinklers were on again at half-time.

One fan posted on X to say: “Why the f did they water the pitch again?”

A second fan posted: “These lot are wetting up the pitch”

A third said: “What s**t***sery is Bournemouth doing by wetting one half of the pitch? Can someone explain to me please?”

A fourth wrote: “nah ain’t no way united fans complaining about the pitch as if bournemouth not playing on the same pitch.”

And a fifth chimed in to say: “Bournemouth are playing on the same pitch…” in response to United fans suggesting the pitch situation gave Bournemouth a competitive advantage.

United would later go on to benefit greatly from a controversial penalty decision in the game.

A penalty was awarded for United after Kobbie Mainoo thundered a shot into the back of Bournemouth’s Ryan Christie.

The ball came off Christie at some pace and hit the arm of Adam Smith.

VAR decided that Smith had moved his arm toward the ball when it was shown in slow-motion.

At full pace it looked as though there was no way Smith could have moved his arm.

Bruno Fernandes duly converted from the spot to get his second goal of the game.

They were then fortunate to survive a close VAR call after a penalty was initially given against them in stoppage time for a foul on Christie.
