ITV draft in Premier League icon as new pundit in middle of Euro 2024 after exit of Danny Rohl

ITV have drafted in a replacement for Danny Rohl after his exit from their punditry team.

The Sheffield Wednesday boss had been a part of their Euro 2024 coverage during the group stage in Germany.

However, he has now returned to England for the start of pre-season with Wednesday.

Following Rohl’s departure, ITV have added Gaizka Mendieta to their line-up of pundits.

The former Spain midfielder made his debut on Sunday as La Roja beat Georgia 4-1 in the last 16.

ITV have confirmed Mendieta will be part of their coverage for the rest of the tournament.

The 50-year-old previously worked as a pundit for Sky Sports’ Spanish football coverage.

He joins a broadcast team which includes Ian Wright, Roy Keane and Gary Neville.

Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou also featured during the group stage.

Mendieta won 40 caps for Spain as a player, scoring eight goals.

He also played for Valencia, Barcelona and Lazio before ending his career in England with Middlesbrough.

During five years on Teeside, Mendieta scored four goals in 62 Premier League appearances.

The Spaniard was also part of the Boro side that reached the Uefa Cup final in 2006.

It came two years after he won the League Cup with the club during his first season at the Riverside Stadium.
