JAMES MADDISON was royally ‘stitched up’ by Harry Maguire at the World Cup last year.

Maguire’s wind-up meant the Spurs midfielder was forced into singing with Robbie Williams.

Maddison gave an extended interview this week to former Manchester United goalkeeper Ben Foster for Amazon Prime.

In it, the Tottenham midfielder explained how pop star Williams came to perform for the squad ahead of the World Cup.

And he ended up on stage alongside him, all thanks to his ex-Leicester City team-mate.

Maddison said: “During Robbie’s performance, he says ‘stop the set, I’ve heard Maddison’s got a bit.

“And I’m just at the back still tucking into my chicken or whatever I’m eating, thinking ‘did I hear that right?’

“I’ve heard he can seriously sing’ but I promise you now I can’t sing.

Harry Maguire has stitched me up and told Robbie that I’m genuinely good.

“So he called me up for a duet, I’m at the back like ‘Robbie I’m rubbish, you can’t get me up there’.

“But the lads are like Madders come on don’t turn down a duet with Robbie, Jack Grealish and Mason Mount were saying ‘you’ve got to go up’.

“I ended up doing a duet with him at the front, Sweet Caroline, I hit the first note pretty well and it went downhill from there.”

Maddison is currently out injured after being forced off at half-time in Spurs’ 4-1 defeat to Chelsea.

The £40million midfielder suffered damage to his ankle ligament and will be out of action until the New Year.

He also told Foster: “It’s healing well, it’s a bit of a slow burner which is obviously frustrating because like you said, I started the season so well. But it’s healing, slowly but surely.”
