JEREMY CLARKSON has launched a new career in racing – with a horse named after his lager.

The Sun columnist and famed TV petrolhead could see stunning grey gelding The Hawkstonian make his debut at the end of this month.

Clarkson has enlisted the help of Harry Redknapp’s trainer Ben Pauling – who guided the footie legend to his first Cheltenham Festival winner last month.

Pauling’s Naunton Downs yard is right next to Clarkson’s farm made famous in the Amazon Prime hit documentary of the same name.

And his Hawkstone brewery which makes Hawkstone Lager, ‘one of the nation’s most popular beers’ according to their website, is nearby as well.

Now the two have teamed up with the aim of success on the track in much the same way Redknapp has enjoyed.

But Pauling joked he’ll have to ‘educate’ Clarkson about what real horsepower is all about.

Clarkson said: “I said to the Hawkstone team that we should get into racing but clearly they got motor racing and horseracing confused!

“That said, Ben Pauling is a stone’s throw from Diddly Squat Farm and the Hawkstone Brewery, so I know where my hay is going.

“Furthermore, the Pauling family originally farmed our land and taught Kaleb (Cooper, one of the stars of Clarkson’s Farm) all he knows about farming.”

Pauling was recently rocked by loyal owners the Megsons abruptly pulling all their horses out of his yard.

The trainer said their years of working together ended in a one-minute phone call and he claimed to have no idea what prompted their decision.

He remains a top trainer for Redknapp though, and can look forward to having another big name in the yard now too.

Pauling said: “I look forward to educating Jeremy and his Hawkstone members about all things horse racing.

“And I hope The Hawkstonian is as fast as the plug-in hybrid Ferrari SF90 XX Stradale!”
