JOCKEY Christophe Lemaire has been forced to stay in Dubai after puncturing his lung in a fatal fall on World Cup night.

The superstar jockey was rushed to hospital after a terrifying spill from Catnip in the Dubai Turf at Meydan.

Catnip had to be put down as a result of the injuries he sustainedReuters

Sadly the screens came up and the horse was put down as a result of the injury suffered.

Lemaire was carried into the back of an ambulance and rushed off for checks, where it was revealed he had broken his collarbone and a rib.

A further statement issued on Aprul 1 by Dubai Racing Club confirmed he had also punctured a lung.

As a result it means he will have to stay in the UAE to receive the treatment he needs.

A statement read: “Further Christophe Lemaire update: expected to be discharged from hospital today (April 1).

“Punctured lung in addition to broken collarbone and rib means a two-week stay in the UAE.”

The awful fall meant Lemaire missed the ride on long-time World Cup favourite Derma Sotogake.

Former British champion jockey Oisin Murphy got the leg up in his place but the horse could only manage sixth.

Juddmonte’s Laurel River won in devastating fashion for veteran Irish jockey Tadhg O’Shea.

Catnip, a five-year-old gelding, sadly broke down entering the final stretch of the 1m1f Turf.

Despite every effort of vets on the racecourse he could not be saved.

Lemaire was shown on TV being stretchered off the track.

His terrible accident came in the race before Sir Alex Ferguson went for a £2.7million win in the Sheema Classic.

His wonderhorse Spirit Dancer was up against former Epsom Derby hero Auguste Rodin, who had been smashed into 11-8 favourite.

However, there was a shock as William Buick and Charlie Appleby had the winner with rogue 28-1 outsider Rebel’s Romance.
