JONNY EVANS still has another transfer offer on the table – despite signing for Manchester United.

The Northern Irishman, 35, put pen to paper on a short-term deal at Old Trafford this week.

That has enabled the veteran defender to train with United in pre-season.

He headed to Edinburgh as United face Lyon at Murrayfield today – then he is set to travel with the Red Devils’ Under-21s as they head to San Diego for further friendlies.

However, Evans could make a shock return to Leicester before the new season starts.

The Foxes offered their former captain a contract extension when his deal ended following their relegation to the Championship.

Evans refrained from signing on again at the King Power.

But according to The Athletic, that offer is still available to the centre-back should he choose to make a return to Leicester.

Evans joined the East Midlands side from West Brom in 2018 but managed just 13 Premier League appearances last season despite inheriting the armband from Kasper Schmeichel.

There were question marks from fans over his leadership and fitness throughout the campaign, which ultimately ended with Leicester going down.

New boss Enzo Maresca has already signed centre-backs Conor Coady and Callum Doyle this summer to bolster his defensive line.

And Evans would likely be battling with Jannik Vestergaard as the fifth-choice central defender behind Wout Faes and Harry Souttar.

Evans – who played the 2007-08 season on loan at Sunderland in the Championship – has impressed United boss Erik ten Hag in training and is eligible to feature in pre-season friendlies.

SunSport understands that the deal is seen as a mutually beneficial short-term arrangement – with Evans able to gain fitness and United benefiting from his experience.

Evans originally joined United as a teenager in 2004.

He subsequently broke through under Sir Alex Ferguson, making 198 first-team appearances for the Red Devils.

The defender won three Premier League titles during his first Old Trafford stint, as well as the Champions League in 2008.
