JORDAN HENDERSON has not been paid a single penny from his lucrative Al-Ettifaq contract.

The former Liverpool captain made the move to Saudi Arabia last summer.

Henderson, 33, is currently back in Europe trying to seal a move to Dutch giants Ajax.

He has reached an agreement to terminate his £700,000-per-week deal with the Saudi Pro League side.

The England international spent six months at the club under manager Steven Gerrard.

Despite making 19 appearances for the club the midfielder has not been paid.

Henderson, who has won 81 caps, did not take any payment in order to get back into England more easily and play for Gareth Southgate‘s side.

This means that he was not restricted by time limitations for people who do not have UK taxpayer status.

People are deemed a resident in the UK for tax purposes if they spend 90 or more days per year in the country.

However, Henderson is now not expected to see a single penny from his time in Saudi Arabia.

SunSport understands that this is because he has agreed to forgo any of his owed salary so he can leave the club and walk away from his three-year deal.

SPL bosses have been sympathetic to Henderson, whose family has found it hard to settle in the Middle East after his £12m move from Liverpool in July.

Henderson is set for a massive pay cut to join the Eredivisie giants.

He will become the highest earner at Ajax, on a weekly wage of 90,000 Euros (just over £77,000) before tax, plus lucrative bonuses.

But that’s less than he was earning at Liverpool before his ill-judged decision to move to Saudi.

The former Sunderland star is thought to have struggled to adapt to life in the Middle East and has already quit Al-Ettifaq‘s training camp in Dubai.

He was heavily criticised by LGBTQ+ groups for his controversial £12million switch, with Saudi Arabia known for its poor human rights record.

Henderson’s exit will also leave manager Gerrard exposed.

Gerrard lost assistant boss Ian Foster to Championship club Plymouth earlier this month and now star signing Henderson has jumped ship.
