The man who once famously referred to himself as ‘The Special One’ was fired by the Giallorossi on January 16 following a miserable 3-1 loss to Milan.

The Portuguese boss left his former side sitting seventh in the league table as Daniele De Rossi was ushered in on a sixth month deal to replace him.

Supporters were fuming about the sacking and took to plastering banners and posters across the city to vent their frustration.

Speaking to Football.com via Calciomercato.com, Mourinho threw his toys out of the pram and took a swipe at his bosses.

He said: “The European competitions are about to begin, in particular the Champions League, perhaps the most important competition on the world calendar.

“I won’t be there at these final stages, not because I’ve already been eliminated, but because I was ‘eliminated’ by someone who knows little about football.

“That’s life, full of ups and downs, and I’m growing, despite the unexpected and unfair dismissal.

“But I will return, with even more enthusiasm and confidence, for these Uefa matches.”
