Jose Mourinho won’t be out of work for long… ex-Chelsea and Man Utd boss will sit back and watch job offers flood in

JOSE MOURINHO is once again looking for another job… but he’s unlikely to be unemployed for too long.

The Portuguese coach was sacked by Roma after delivering a poor run of results while publicly criticising players, causing a huge split among the fan-base and continuing to behave disgracefully on the touchline.

Who saw that one coming? Virtually everyone, obviously.

Nevertheless, Mourinho, who turns 61 next week, will sit back and watch the offers flood in, even though he is damaged goods and everywhere he goes now turns toxic.

Even by his standards, Mourinho lost the plot this season and he had already clocked up five red cards, including two in the space of four days last week, before getting the boot from the Stadio Olimpico.

Due to his unimpressive spell with Spurs, and the fact he has already managed Manchester United and Chelsea, Mourinho has no chance of getting another major club in England as neither Liverpool, Arsenal or Manchester City are looking for a new coach and none of them would not touch him in any case.

Maybe Newcastle, if they decided to make a change but Eddie Howe has plenty of credit in the bank at St James’ Park. For the time being.

A job like Crystal Palace would always be a possibility. Some England fans, who believe Gareth Southgate has underachieved with the national team, would like to see Mourinho take over after Euro 2024.

He would certainly shake things up, but probably too much. And if England supporters feel Southgate is too negative, then Mourinho would certainly be no better.

It was his style of play which was a huge source of frustration for the fans in the Italian capital.

After his dismissal yesterday, Mourinho wrote on social media: “arrivederci Roma’ and posted a picture of himself holding the Europa Conference League trophy he clinched in 2022 with defeat over Feyenoord in the final.

That achievement means that even though things turned sour, Mourinho will still be fondly remembered in Rome.

He also came close to lifting the Europa League last term but the side lost on penalties to Sevilla in the final and his treatment of English referee Anthony Taylor, when confronting him getting into a car after the game, was absolutely shocking.

Mourinho was lucky to only get a four-match Uefa ban.

Yet this term has been tough for Mourinho with Roma looking sluggish and physically weak with even Romelu Lukaku struggling.

Initially, there was still talk of a new contract as his current one was due to expire in the summer. But Mourinho earned around £10m a season and with Italy’s tax laws changing for overseas players and coaches, Roma would have had to shell out about £14m for the manager to get the same take-home pay.

Some Roma supporters felt they should have kept faith with Mourinho as, although the team is ninth, they are approaching three winnable games against Verona, Salernitana and Claudio Ranieri’s Cagliari and are still in the Europa League.

But the 3-1 loss to Milan on Sunday was the final straw. The board quickly appointed club legend Daniel De Rossi although he did not set the world alight in charge of SPAL in Serie B last term.

To prove that Mourinho will have plenty of offers, he turned down the Portugal national team job in 2022 and last summer, knocked back the chance of becoming the highest paid coach in history when Saudi Arabia offered him £100m over two years to be the national team manager.

After that, Mourinho turned down offers from Saudi Pro League clubs Al Ahli and Al Hilal, with the latter being worth £25m per season.

While some Chelsea fans would still take Mourinho back at Stamford Bridge for a third time, many would love to see him become the new boss of Brazil although they have just appointed Dorival Junior.

Mourinho is certain to charm his way into another job. But recent history suggests it will just end up turning into a circus.
