Jose Mourinho ‘would love’ Premier League return with former Man Utd boss dreaming of shock role

JOSE MOURINHO is keen on a shock return to Premier League management.

The Portuguese gaffer was sacked as Roma boss earlier this year after a run of poor form littered with ill-disciplined touchline antics.

But after a number of weeks away from the dugout it appears Mourinho is ready to return to management.

According to The Telegraph, the Special One is keen on snatching the Newcastle job from under-pressure Eddie Howe.

Howe is under the microscope at St James’ Park with a huge drop off in form and results this term compared to last season.

The Magpies are stewing in 10th place in the Premier League table and are a whopping 15 points behind fourth placed Aston Villa.

While a group stage exit from the Champions League and just 11 points from their last 12 league games means rumours have been swirling about a new boss on Tyneside.

It’s claimed that Mourinho would “love” to take Howe’s job from him if things turn sour for the Toon.

But the former Bournemouth boss has claimed he isn’t too concerned about losing his seat at the helm of the richest club in the world.

When asked about speculation about his future, he said: “Genuinely it doesn’t affect me.”

Before adding: “I’m here, sat in the seat. My future will be defined by what I do, nobody else.

“It’s up to me to continually prove [that this club is off limits to big name managers].

“But I back myself and my abilities. I know what I bring to the job and my qualities. I have ambitions for the team and for the club – I can’t control what people write.

“My managerial career in general has never been smooth. You go back to my start point [at Bournemouth] where I was taking on a challenge that was one of the hardest I’ll ever have.

“So, my management career starting from right from the depths of League Two to where am now, I think, has served me really well in dealing with perceived adversity, challenging times.

” I’ve had them all through my career. This is nothing new, it’s just on a bigger scale.”

Should Howe turn things around in the North East then there may be alternative routes back in to management for the jobless Mourinho.

The 61-year-old is said to be eyeing the Bayern Munich job with reports claiming he has been learning German to prepare himself for a potential role.

Bavarians boss Thomas Tuchel will be parting ways with he Bundesliga club at the end of the season after slipping some way behind Bayer Leverkusen in the German title race.

However a return to the Premier League could be more favourable for Mourinho who has already proven his ability to achieve big things in England.

The charismatic gaffer won three Premier League titles over two spells as Chelsea manager and had success in his first season in charge of Manchester United winning a Europe League and League Cup double.
