MANCHESTER CITY have reportedly agreed a record transfer fee to sign Croatia star Josko Gvardiol.

And the RB Leipzig defender has already undergone the first part of a medical ahead of a stunning move to the Treble winners.

Gvardiol, 21, emerged as a top target for Pep Guardiola earlier this season.

The World Cup icon was strongly linked with a move to Chelsea last summer.

But City came forward to strike personal terms a month ago after making Aymeric Laporte available on the market.

And Fabrizio Romano claims Gvardiol is now on the verge of becoming the most expensive defender in history after City had an offer accepted by Leipzig.

Manchester United ex-captain Harry Maguire holds the current record after an £80million switch from Leicester in 2019.

However, Gvardiol’s fee is expected to smash the £100m barrier – potentially putting him ahead of City’s club-record signing Jack Grealish.

Gvardiol’s capture is now set to end Laporte’s time at the Etihad.

But it could also cast doubt over Nathan Ake’s future, despite the Dutch ace playing a starring role last season.

Gvardiol played 88 times in two seasons for Leipzig, scoring five goals in the process.

He helped them win two successive German Cups.

And the ace was named in the Bundesliga Team of the Season after Leipzig finished third.

Gvardiol also caught the eye of fans with some starring performances for Croatia at the World Cup.

However, he was eventually caught out by Lionel Messi on the way to Argentina’s stunning win in Qatar.
