Juventus pull out of transfer race for Kalvin Phillips over financial concerns in huge boost to Premier League suitors

JUVENTUS are out of the running to sign Manchester City’s Kalvin Phillips.

The Italian giants wanted the England midfielder — who is also a Newcastle target — on loan and for City to continue paying most of his wages.

But they decided packages to sign Phillips or Tottenham star Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg are too costly.

Juve director Cristiano Giuntoli said: “We don’t see any opportunity from a technical or financial point of view.

“We look for correct opportunities and can’t see any now.”

Phillips, 28, is after a move to boost his Euro 2024 hopes and Toon want him for the rest of the season but are reluctant to pay a big loan fee.

It’s reckoned City are demanding £5million to let Phillips leave this month.

They also want an obligation to buy him worth around £40m — the fee they paid to sign Phillips from Leeds 18 months ago.

There are several other Premier League sides interested in Phillips though.

Crystal Palace and Fulham are huge admirers of the England ace.

And SunSport exclusively revealed that Manchester United could line up a bid at the end of the season.

Phillips could yet be rescued on loan this month by French side Paris Saint-Germain.

But City may have to lower their demands to get him off the books.
