BAYERN MUNICH are trying to sign Kepa Arrizabalaga on loan from Chelsea, according to reports.

Thomas Tuchel’s side are eager to sign a new goalkeeper as cover for Manuel Neuer.

The Bayern stalwart remains out injured after experiencing a setback following his return to training following a broken leg suffered last year.

Yann Sommer was brought in to deputise in January, but has since been allowed to join Inter Milan as Manchester United-bound Andre Onana’s replacement.

Bayern initially showed an interest in Brentford stopper David Raya, but have lost out on the Spaniard to Arsenal.

According to Sky Germany reporter Florian Plettenberg, Kepa has now emerged as Bayern’s No1 target.

He adds that the Bundesliga champions are working on an initial loan deal for the Spaniard that will “probably” include an option to buy.

Should a deal fail for Kepa, Bayern could turn to Argentine Ajax goalkeeper Geronimo Rulli.

German outlet Sport1 claim that Tuchel has personally recommended Kepa to Bayern’s hierarchy – despite having preferred Edouard Mendy during his time at Stamford Bridge.

Kepa was made to watch on from the bench as Mendy’s performances helped Chelsea win the Champions League in 2021.

And the 28-year-old went on to make just four Premier League appearances during Tuchel’s full season in charge of the Blues in 2021-22.

Kepa began last season still behind Mendy under Tuchel in the Premier League, but did start the German’s final game in charge – a 1-0 Champions League defeat at Dinamo Zagreb.

He then kept his place as No1 under Graham Potter and Frank Lampard.

His position is under threat again, however, with Chelsea having signed Robert Sanchez from Brighton.

The Blues confirmed Sanchez’s acquisition in a £25million deal from the Seagulls last week.
