Kylian Mbappe’s namesake horse can win the big race on day two of Glorious Goodwood

GO in for the Kyl in today’s Molecomb Stakes.

KYLIAN (3.00) couldn’t have been more impressive when winning the Listed Dragon Stakes at Sandown by six lengths.

The ground was no quicker than good there so he should be fine in these likely slower conditions.

Ryan Moore stays on board and can give in-form trainer Karl Burke another nice prize.

Big Evs is a huge danger after his cakewalk in the Windsor Castle Stakes at Royal Ascot.

He showed loads of pace there on the fast ground and will go close if taking to the softer going.

Hopefully all eight run so the bookies pay three places with Shagraan looking capable of better after a good second at Newbury last time.

Here, Templegate runs through all the runners in the race and ranks them out of five stars.

Molecomb Stakes runner-by-runner guide

BAHEER 3

He showed promise when second on debut at Newbury in May before returning to the Berkshire track for an impressive win.

Both runs have been over six furlongs but trainer Richard Hannon has won the past two runnings of this which makes him a threat.

BARNWELL BOY 3

OH Boy. He loved this tricky course when winning by almost five lengths over six furlongs on debut.

He was then dropped to this minimum for the Windsor Castle at Royal Ascot where he never looked at home.

A longer trip would be ideal but his course form is respected and he could make the frame.

BIG EVS 4

BIG chance. He caught the eye with a close debut second from a poor draw at Redcar in May.

He left that form behind with a blistering three-length win in the Windsor Castle Stakes at Royal Ascot.

He made all there and never looked in danger. Can go close if enjoying these slower conditions.

HACKMAN 3

HACK canter. Won in the mud at Chester’s May meeting and has run well twice at Sandown either side of a poor effort at Royal Ascot.

Chased home Kylian in Listed company last time without threatening but has pace and could run into the frame again given he’s the only one proven on soft.

KYLIAN 5

LIAN can roar. Improving with every run and had six lengths in hand when winning a Sandown Listed contest last time.

He has lots of pace and trainer Karl Burke has been having a fine time with his juvenile sprinters this season. There’s a lot more to come.

MARKAKOL 1

MAR no star. Well, he gets one star for turning up but that’s about it.

Best effort so far came over this distance when winning a minor contest at Newcastle two runs ago.

He didn’t seem to get home over six furlongs at Newbury latest and needs to raise his game to figure in this company.

PUROSANGUE 2

PUR and simple. He’s looked really green on both runs so far, winning easily on debut at Haydock before a modest effort in a Group 2 on the July course at Newmarket.
Will like dropping back to this distance but will need to take a big step forward to get involved here.

SHAGRAAN 3

RAAN on. Has done all his racing over six furlongs so far with an easy win at Windsor before running well in Listed company at Newbury.

He showed plenty of zip but just ran out of petrol near the line so this shorter trip and faster track may suit. Another with an each-way shout.
