Legendary racehorse Frodon retired after glittering career including King George and Cheltenham Festival wins

BRYONY FROST has paid tribute to her best pal Frodon after the 11-year-old was retired from racing.

The King George and Ryanair Chase hero finished a well-beaten fifth at Kempton on Boxing Day, after which the decision was made to call time on his glittering career.

The Paul Nicholls-trained star won 19 of his 52 starts, banking a whopping £1.2 million in prize-money in the process.

Frost has been on his back for most of those starts, and she became the first female jockey to win a Grade 1 race over jumps in Britain when steering him home in the Ryanair in 2019.

She can’t wait to get him back home to Devon with her other retired star Black Corton.

Frost said: “It has been a privilege to be his partner over the years, it’s difficult to put into words how much he means to me and everyone at Ditcheat.

“He ran his heart out in the King George the other day but he isn’t getting any younger, he owes nobody anything and he will have a very happy life at home with me.

“I’ve already got his stable ready next to Black Corton – I can’t wait to have my two boys at home.

“He will do whatever he wants to do – he has always loved eating so I’m sure he will get fat in no time.”

He also has a big place in Nicholls’ heart, given his consistency over the years.
