LIONEL MESSI has allegedly “phoned” an ex-Manchester United defender to try and convince him to become the latest big-name recruit for Inter Miami.
Messi has been at Inter Miami since leaving Paris Saint-Germain, where he has already enjoyed cup-winning success.

And then it was announced this month that Luis Suarez had become the fourth Barca legend to sign for the club.
Now journalist Hernan Castillo of Continental 590 radio in Argentina says that former United man Marcos Rojo could be next to sign.
The 33-year-old is a long-time team-mate of Messi’s on the international stage and is currently playing for Boca Juniors back in his homeland.
Castillo states that Inter Miami face competition from Brazilian club Palmeiras for the veteran.
However, Messi has already held talks with him over the phone to try and swing it and bring him to America.
Rojo joined United back in 2014 and he spent seven years at Old Trafford under the likes of Louis van Gaal, Jose Mourinho and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
He made just 76 Premier League appearances during that period but he did win both the FA and League Cup while at the Red Devils.
And he was also part of the squad that Mourinho led to Europa League success in 2017.
He left United in 2021 for Boca and he has become a key man for them since.
